Support children's emotional well-being

Engaging in responsive relationships and supporting children's emotional well-being is as important as ensuring their health and safety. How does learning happen? Ontario's pedagogy for the early years is a resource that focuses on learning and development through relationships, and outlines goals for children and expectations for programs based on the four foundations of belonging, wellbeing, engagement and expression.


Early Childhood Educators

Read the legislation that regulates the practice of early childhood education in Ontario.


Learn about the four foundations that are important for children's wellbeing and healthy development.


In Ontario, Registered Early Childhood Educator is a professional designation governed by the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators in accordance with the Early Childhood Educators Act, 2007 and the regulations and by-laws made under that Act. 


The regulations cover: 


  • Continuous Professional Learning Regulation. As a registered Early Childhood Educator, you must take part in the ‘Continuous Professional Learning (CPL) program’ which is designed to support RECEs to systematically and intentionally increase their knowledge and skills, strengthen their professional judgment, and improve their practice with others throughout their career.
     
  • Professional Misconduct Regulation 


In addition, the RECE candidate must have:


  • a vulnerable sector screening with their municipal police services
  • CPR Level 3 & Standard First Aid
  • Health Immunizations
