Welcome

Trace Manes and Weybourne School give young children rich, warm and natural environments where they can enjoy interacting with each other and make sense of their world in their own time.

Children grow each day with a sense of confidence, wondering and taking risks to make meaning about the world around them. It is with this vision that we designed and built our little preschools.

- Mothergoose

Little preschools have little classes.

What and how children learn during the first few years of their lives are the building blocks for successful lifelong learning. With that being said, it’s no surprise that class sizes make a huge difference in a child’s education, especially during their toddler and preschool years. Smaller classes allow our educators to create personalized learning paths that will suit each child's unique personality. Because of the small staff-to-children ratio, we get to know how each child learns.

Our children have access to Trace Manes Community Centre, Leaside Library,  Georgia Walsh Memorial Playground, Trace Manes Park, Sandy Bruce Park, Howard Talbot Park and an outdoor fenced playground with over 1,800 sq ft of space. As urban dwellers, the playground has emerged as the place for our children to move freely and creatively around the environment allowing them to explore, run and jump.

Our Play Curriculum

Inspire Curiosity with Inquiry

Inspire Curiosity with Inquiry

Inspire Curiosity with Inquiry

A Reggio-inspired curriculum builds from the natural curiosities of children. Sometimes it will emerge from the children’s interests or may also be sparked by the teacher strategically putting out a provocation to see how the children respond or by posing inquiry-based questions that deepen learning and understanding. Teachers may also create a curiosity by reading rich literature, taking advantage of real life experiences outside and within the community, and by deeply listening and responding to the thoughts and ideas of children.

Learn to Communicate

Inspire Curiosity with Inquiry

Our team of fully-qualified educators actively observe and listens to each child so we can meet their unique needs. The arts is a key role and are integrated into daily activities to maximize children’s development. Children will regularly spend time with their teacher and frequently participate in dance, drama, music, movement instruction and play; all part of the many different ways children can collaborate.

Build Collaboration with Play

Inspire Curiosity with Inquiry

Build Collaboration with Play

Children will engage in in-depth studies that develop out of their ideas, questions, and interests. Projects may last for short or extended periods of time and may involve individuals, small groups or the whole class. Educators choose what materials to use to support their explorations and how to research, share and re-represent their learnings. Projects involve collaboration which supports the development of cognitive, communication and social skills. Children are also encouraged to negotiate, discuss, critique, compare and problem solve during project work, all important aspects of the child’s ability to self-regulate behaviour.
